There are several livestock guardian dogs. Each breed has different characteristics. After researching the different breeds carefully, we decided the Great Pyrenees was the livestock guardian for us, mostly because of their people-friendly demeanor as well as protective nature. We want to have family, friends, and people interested in our farm visit us, and we enjoy being interactive with all of the animals, so we weren’t interested in having a breed that strictly bonds with the goats and not us as well. We chose our dogs from other farms that have similar livestock and goals as to what we have; goats, chickens, ducks, guineas, and a mini pig. So all of our Great Pyrenees come from working lines. We also felt that having AKC registered dogs with a history of good breeding standards as well as guarding livestock was important.

Belle of Shady Acres Farm, from Twin Oaks Farm, born 06/21/2018. She’s our first Pyrenees on the farm and we can tell by the way she has nurtured the new puppies, that she will be an excellent mom. She stays out with the goats, barking all night, to keep predators at bay. We think of her as the matriarch of the farm.

Thor of Shady Acres Farm is our newest arrival from Lachenbock Farm. He was born on 5/19/19. Even as a puppy, he was very gentle and patient with the young goats stepping and climbing on him.  Now he’s a very large, gentle puppy and we are so glad to have him protecting our livestock with the girls.

We decided to neuter Thor as he was becoming more and more unsure of people and protective of Belle.  We are grateful he has been more at ease and still a wonderful protector of the goats.

Our Great Pyrenees come from long lines of AKC registered livestock guardian dogs. They are raised with goats, chickens, ducks, guinea hens and our mini pot belly big. They protect our property and livestock from predators but are gentle and enjoy our company as well as the visitors we introduce them to.

This litter was born on December 5th, 2020.

We are not sure if we will be planning any future litters at this time.
